Meperfluthrin
Meperfluthrin is a volatile synthetic pyrethroid used in mosquito mats, coils, and heated emanators. It vaporizes readily at warm temperatures to create a spatial repellent zone.
How it works
Like other pyrethroids it disrupts insect nerve-cell sodium channels; as a volatile active it works in the vapor phase, repelling and knocking down mosquitoes in the air around the device rather than on skin.
The evidence
Laboratory vapor-toxicity and knockdown studies place meperfluthrin among the more potent volatile pyrethroids against Aedes and Culex, but its independent, internationally regulated evidence base is thin: most efficacy data are lab knockdown comparisons, and safety data are limited to a small acute study and case reports flagging an inhalation and mucosal hazard at high exposure. It is not covered by WHO or EPA registration the way established actives are.
