Granular version of Summit's Bti larvicide, made of corn cob granules coated with the same mosquito-larvae-killing bacterium found in Mosquito Dunks. You scatter the Bits onto standing water, where they release Bti quickly and knock down mosquito larvae faster than a slow-dissolving Dunk, usually within about a day. In exchange for that faster action the Bti releases sooner and the effect is shorter-lived, so Bits are handy for a quick treatment or a heavy larval bloom, while Dunks carry a site for the longer stretch. This is source control for standing water, not a repellent for your skin or a spray for the air. Gardeners also use Bits to control fungus gnats in houseplant soil, since fungus gnat larvae are susceptible to Bti too. Like all Bti products it targets only mosquito, black fly, and fungus gnat larvae and is documented as harmless to people, pets, fish, birds, and other wildlife.

The same Bti that makes Dunks effective is in Bits, so it is highly effective at killing the mosquito larvae in water it reaches, and the granular form works faster, usually knocking down larvae within about a day. The trade-off is that Bits release their Bti quickly and so protect a site for a shorter time than a Dunk, which means reapplying to keep a breeding site under control. Coverage is applied by scattering granules at the labeled rate rather than one unit per fixed area, so it is left blank here. Like all Bti, it only helps for standing water you can treat and does nothing to stop adult mosquitoes arriving from elsewhere.
