Passive gravid-Aedes trap from Biogents that uses no electricity, no propane, and no CO2. A black bucket of infused water imitates an ideal breeding site for tiger and yellow-fever mosquitoes, and when an egg-laying female enters to lay, she is caught on a sticky card rather than allowed to reproduce. Because it targets gravid, egg-seeking females instead of host-seeking biters, it works by interrupting the next generation rather than clearing the mosquitoes bothering you right now. It performs best deployed in numbers and as the only breeding site available, run continuously through the whole season, and a double set runs about eighty dollars with no running costs. A single trap in one yard gives limited relief, the payoff builds over weeks and scales with how many neighbors also deploy, and it does little against species other than Aedes.
