Hang-up plastic tube from Spartan Mosquito that the user fills with water, with an enclosed lure of sugar, salt, and yeast marketed as an attractant that mosquitoes drink and are then killed by. The instructions call for hanging two or more tubes for a claimed 90-day season of protection. Independent testing tells a different story: a 2020 field study by Aryaprema and colleagues found it did not reduce Aedes albopictus abundance, the contents did not attract mosquitoes, and the roughly 3mm tube openings were too small for mosquitoes to reach the fluid at all. Biologist Colin Purrington documented failures and was sued by the company, class actions have challenged the 90-day claims with one reported settlement around 3.6 million dollars, and salt is not lethal to mosquitoes at these exposures. No credible independent data support the kill or eradication effect.
