Pros
- A simple, disclosed lemon-eucalyptus-and-cedar blend with a woodsy, neem-tinged scent.
Cons
- Short and modest, 1 to 3 hours at best, and sold without the EPA registration these actives need.
- Lemon eucalyptus oil can irritate sensitive skin.
The full review
One of the better-performing naturals here, yet still not recommended. Its strengths are real: a high safety pillar (only moderate sensitization and irritation from lemon eucalyptus at 1.18%), full disclosure for top transparency marks, and modeled complete protection of 1 to 3 hours for mosquitoes and 0.5 to 2 for ticks, modest but genuine, enough for a cookout or a short walk. What holds it back is a soft evidence pillar (four moderate, one weak, two unsupported among eight claims) and being sold without EPA registration despite actives that do not all qualify for the minimum-risk exemption. An under-3 caution also applies. A respectable spray held back by the compliance gap and thin claim support.

Effectiveness45%68Mosquitoes: 1–3 h of complete protection. Ticks: 0.5–2 h of complete protection. Protection times are modeled from the actives, concentration, and format (see methodology). Scored on a saturating curve (each added hour counts less than the last), 65% mosquito / 35% tick, with reasonable confidence.

Evidence & honest claims25%44Eucalyptus Citriodora Oil (Lemon eucalyptus oil) is well-supported by published evidence, weighted by how close its concentration is to the studied effective dose (base 56). Of 8 marketing claims audited: 1 strong, 4 moderate, 1 weak, 2 unsupported (-12).

How long it protects
Complete protection ends when the first bite gets through; partial protection keeps reducing bites as repellency decays. EPA label times are verified; the rest are modeled from the actives, concentration, and format.
Mosquito estimate basis (moderate confidence)
Estimated complete protection time from active ingredient + concentration; the source research used a spray-style formulation, matching this spray (no format adjustment). Partial protection (reduced but real bite suppression) is modeled to extend to ~5 h as repellency decays.
Tick estimate basis (moderate confidence)
Estimated complete protection time from active ingredient + concentration; the source research used a spray-style formulation, matching this spray (no format adjustment). Partial protection (reduced but real bite suppression) is modeled to extend to ~4 h as repellency decays.

Claims audit
What the marketing says, versus what the evidence supports.
“Neem oil is marketed in this product but is not an EPA-registered repellent active or on the EPA 25(b) minimum-risk approved active list”
EfficacyUnsupportedReclassified as an inert/fragrance ingredient during data audit; not a recognized repellent active.
“Lavender oil is marketed in this product but is not an EPA-registered repellent active or on the EPA 25(b) minimum-risk approved active list”

“Field-tested in Vermont forests and Washington rain forests”
EfficacyModerateField-testing in Vermont and Washington is anecdotal brand testing with no clinical data, though the formula does reach a real 1–3 h mosquito-protection estimate.
“For external use only; not for children under 3 years old”
Kid SafeModerateAge-restriction caution from retailer listing.
“All-natural, chemical-free essential oil formula”
NaturalWeakAll actives are essential oils, but 'chemical-free' is an absolute, unsubstantiated descriptor for an oil formula since the oils are themselves chemicals.
“DEET-free essential oil formula”
Deet FreeStrongAll FIFRA 25(b) exempt essential oils.
“Works as well as many DEET-based repellents”
EfficacyModerateLavender, lemon eucalyptus, cedarwood, and rosemary at 1–4% give a real 1–3 h complete-protection estimate, but the 'works as well as many DEET repellents' equivalence rests only on internal field testing.
“Reapply every couple of hours or as needed”
DurationModerateFrom label directions; implies roughly 2-hour protection.
How to apply it
Shake well before using. Apply to any exposed skin. For face or sensitive areas, apply to hands first and then rub on. Reapply every couple of hours or as needed.
