Widely sold plug-in trap from DynaTrap that surrounds a UV fluorescent bulb with a titanium-dioxide-coated surface, which the maker says gives off a small amount of carbon dioxide, and pairs it with a quiet fan that pulls insects down into a retaining cage to dehydrate. It is marketed hard for mosquitoes and coverage of up to a half acre, but the way it actually catches insects is much closer to a fan-assisted light trap than to a true CO2 lure trap. Independent testing and reviews consistently find that its catch is dominated by moths, midges, beetles, and other non-biting night insects, with very few biting mosquitoes among them, so it does little to reduce how much you get bitten. In practice it behaves like a quiet bug zapper: it collects insects that are drawn to light, which is not the same as removing the host-seeking female mosquitoes that bite you. It is not skin protection, and there is no credible field evidence that it lowers your bite count outdoors.
