Summary
Skin-applied laboratory arm-in-cage plus outdoor field evaluation of a 5% geraniol extended-release formulation (TT-4302) against three mosquito species, compared to 15% DEET and 16 commercial repellents.
Key findings
Lab 94.7% repellency at 5 h (Ae. aegypti) and 95.2% at 6 h (An. quadrimaculatus); field 100% at 5 h (Ae. albopictus) — outperforming 15% DEET. The longest credible topical geraniol duration on record.
Limitations
Manufacturer-affiliated authors; a single proprietary extended-release formulation (not generic geraniol); small sample (n=4); not independently replicated. Does not establish that plain 5% geraniol lasts 5 h.
