Summary

Laboratory choice-test bioassays of BioUD (7.75% 2-undecanone) versus DEET for repellency against the ticks Amblyomma americanum, Dermacentor variabilis, and Ixodes scapularis.

Key findings

BioUD was 2-4 times more repellent than DEET against ixodid ticks overall; it outperformed DEET against A. americanum and I. scapularis and was equivalent against D. variabilis.

Limitations

Filter-paper choice-test assay rather than on-skin human bite protection; laboratory conditions; tick (not mosquito) endpoint.
