Farnesol is a floral sesquiterpene alcohol used mostly as a fragrance and deodorant ingredient. There is little evidence it works as a mosquito repellent, and it appears in just one product here.
The evidence
Farnesol has essentially no controlled skin-repellency data behind it. In fragrance and cosmetics it is valued as a scent and a mild antibacterial, not as a bite deterrent.
